| Second Beach:
One of the smaller beaches in and around Skidegate Village on
Graham Island in the Queen Charlottes. The pebbled, rocky beach
encompasses the shoreline of Rooney Bay fronting the very popular
Qay'llangaay Heritage Centre and the 6 new towering Haida carved
totem poles.
From the shores of the cultural centre and Second Beach
one can see Jewel Island and Torrens Island. Sometimes
whales venture close enough to see them spout. The shoreline area
around the nearby islands is often visited by scuba divers and
fisherman.
Second Beach is a convenient beach when in Skidegate
and attracts beach combers, wildlife sightseers and tourists who
wish to admire the totem poles. It is not a large beach, nor does
it have the amenities of other beaches but it does have the marine
activity and waterfront views.
How to Get to Second Beach:
Drive north for about 2 km on Hwy 16 from the Skidegate BC Ferry
Terminal on Graham Island. On your right, look for the big carved
"Welcome to Skidegate" sign and Qay'llangaay Heritage
Centre. There is a gravel parking lot at the centre. Park and
go!
